Soldering stations

We have three soldering stations in the hackSpace. They are free to use for any staff or students who have had the entry level induction. At times they become busy, you can book a slot to use the soldering stations from this web page.

Some tips for soldering:

Make sure you use all personal protective equipment when using the soldering station, including goggles, gloves and apron.

Have the extraction fan nozzle pointed directly at the soldering iron, this will ensure dangerous fumes are removed strait away.

At no time is it safe to touch the metal components of the soldering iron with bare hands. The soldering iron only needs to be at a temperature of 200 degrees. Don’t be tempted to apply the maximum temperature as this will make the solder hard to use.

Use the clamps available to hold your components in place. This will help you keep your hands free when soldering.
