Many Hands

Kingston hackSpace

By Lottie Fox-Jones

This installation, entitled 'I raised my hands' is intended to inspire activism. The viewer walks into the space, and raises their hand, which then activates 15 in inflatable arms to blow up all around them. The intention is to inspire people to be the rst to speak up about what is important to them, and they are invited to post a photograph of themselves in the space on Instagram using the hashtag #iraisedmyhands, and share an issue which they want to speak up about.

The project uses a force sensitive resistor attached to the Arduino, that when activated by someone pressing on it, will send a signal to the Arduino board to activate the fan. The fan is powered by mains electricity which is too high for the Arduino board to supply. The board is connected with signal wire to a relay module which in turn controls the fan.
